The Arenal area is one of the best places in Costa Rica for waterfall rappelling/canyoning. The company that we recommend for this tour specializes in canyoning.

Their tour starts with a short truck ride up the mountain into the rainforest to get to the first waterfall. You then climb up the side of the canyon wall, hike to the next cliff, slide out on a cable, and then drop into a natural pool in the canyon floor.

The tour consists of short hikes between each rappel, following the water as it cascades down the mountain. They have 4 rappels (3 waterfalls and 1 rock wall) at various heights, which the guides help you safely navigate. The tour wraps up at the base office where you can change clothes and enjoy a delicious homemade lunch.
