Zipline-Hanging Bridges Combo at Sky Adventures Arenal

A great way to fit in both hanging bridges and ziplining is a combo tour. Sky Adventures has the best facility in the area.

Hanging Bridges Hike

On the hike, you will follow a well-maintained path to 2 long suspension bridges (416-496 feet/127-143 meters) and get to enjoy views of Arenal Volcano. You’ll pass through dense primary rainforest and see grand trees along the way. The viewing platform midway through the hike is a highlight. It looks out to Lake Arenal and the Monteverde Cloud Forest in the distance.

The trail is about 2.5 miles (4 km) total. The terrain is dirt and has some inclines, but overall, it’s easy to moderate in difficulty.

We highly recommend adding a guide ($5 pp) so that you can see more wildlife. On our visits, we have seen sloths, eyelash pit viper snakes, coatis (a raccoon-like animal), monkeys, toucans, and other birds. If you choose to add a guide, they will stop along the way to teach you about the ecosystem and point out wildlife.

Note that for the guided tour, you will only go as far as the viewpoint and back to reception instead of doing the whole loop (see map photo). This includes the two hanging bridges and viewpoint. The guided tour takes about 1.5-2 hours.

Ziplining

After the hanging bridge hike and a short break, you will get fitted with safety equipment and start the zipline portion. The ziplines are extremely elaborate compared to some of the other companies and their guides are really fun and safe.

This portion of the tour lasts about 2 hours. It starts with a gondola ride up and then brings you back down the mountain on 7 different cables. Each one is a different length and there are two very long ones. The longest reaches over 750 meters (2,461 feet!). That’s about one minute of ride time.

This is a high-adrenalin tour. The ziplines are very high up and fast, giving you amazing rainforest, volcano, and lake views.

This tour is great for children because they don’t need to hold onto the zipline cable. They can easily hold the handle on the metal pulley. Braking is automatic as well. We did this tour with our son when he was six and he loved it.

If you’re looking for a tamer, but still really fun, zipline tour, we recommend Arenal Ecoglide. This is a great option with young children (kids as young as 2 can go) or anyone who’s nervous.

Super professional outfit! The ziplining was beautiful and our guide for the hanging bridges tour was fantastic. He showed us local wildlife (a tarantula! a pit viper!) and gave us a great natural history lesson. He was engaging with my teens and pre-teen. The only reason this is a 4 star and not a 5 star is that I was hoping for (and expecting) more than 2 hanging bridges. The ones we traversed were awe-inspiring, but I would have liked a hike that had more bridges.

Our guide for the hanging bridges, Maria, was knowledgeable and patient with the kids. We saw tons of animals. My older son and I did the ziplining and had a blast – the whole team was super friendly and professional. Will recommend to friends / family visiting La Fortuna in the future, and we’re already talking about a return trip!

This was my favorite adventure of our whole trip. The zip lining was amazing, and the staff were so friendly and encouraging for those of us who were a little nervous :). The hanging bridges hike was beautiful, and the guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Loved that they provided free lockers and they had a nice onsite restaurant so we could have a small meal between activities. One note, the description said the hike was first but when we arrived, we had to do the zip lining first. So just be prepared that the order of activities could be switched!

We had an amazing morning at SkyAdventures. It is incredible to zipline over the trees with a view of Arenal and the lake. The whole operation is top notch and very safe. We also did the hanging bridges guided tour and it was totally worthwhile. There is a nice cafe for grabbing lunch after all the adventures. Booking through Two Weeks in Costa Rica was easy and helpful.
