Guided Tour of Rainmaker Conservation Park
This is a guided tour of a beautiful nature reserve about 30 minutes from Manuel Antonio. Rainmaker Conservation Park is a great off-the-beaten path destination that sees fewer visitors than Manuel Antonio National Park.
With a knowledgeable naturalist guide, you will explore the reserve’s 2.5 km (1.5 mile) trail in search of wildlife like poison dart frogs, lizards, snakes, butterflies, and birds (Toucans, Manakins, Trogons, etc.). The trail cuts through lush primary forest (never been cut down) and has spectacular rainforest views. There are also several rustic hanging bridges that will give you a bird’s-eye view of the canopy.
Along the way, you’ll pass some waterfalls and natural pools where you can take a dip in the refreshing water.
The trail is easy to moderate in difficulty.
Rainmaker Park is one of our favorite places to hike in Costa Rica. It’s great for kids and adults alike.
This is also available as a private tour.
Cost of Group Tour (8-10 people max): $60 per person plus 13% tax. Children under 5 are free.
Offered: 7:50 a.m., 10:00 a.m., or 1:00 p.m.
*During rainy season (May-November), we recommend a morning tour to avoid the chance of rain.

We booked 11 activities in all and this was the only one that was even slightly disappointing. Perhaps we had the wrong expectations. It was also towards the end of our trips so we had heard a lot of the information before hand.
This is very much a jungle walk to learn about the ecosystem and did not provide much opportunity for wildlife. The hanging bridges are pretty rickety so you don’t feel like enjoying the views when crossing. There are some natural pools to cool off in which is nice.
Our guide was very young (20?) and did not add as much to the experience compared to our other tours. This was the only tour that was noticeably late (20 mins) on the pickup as well. No apology but that could be cultural.

Rainmaker is definitely worth a visit, it’s a moderate up and down hike with plenty of places to swim, traverse hanging bridges through a primary rainforest! I would’ve liked more time there, but we opted to be driven by the tour company, that worked out too because they shared some great info and wildlife spotting on the way in and back.
