Hi, I have an anniversary trip planned for Playa Hermosa for 5 nights in January. We have rented a car out of San Jose Airport. Thanks for the discount and all the great tips on driving in CR! Your site is super informative but I would love to learn more about Playa Hermosa specifically (I know it is small, but have you been to any restaurants, where to buy groceries and wine, etc.), and where to go for activities such as zip lining, fishing/boat cruise, etc. or any hidden gems in the area we must see. Jaco would be fun for us for only a day/night or so as we want to try to avoid the touristy areas the best we can. Thanks for any insight you can provide!

Hi turnereh528,
There are a few restaurants and bars right in Playa Hermosa as well as a small grocery store but for more you will have to drive to either Jaco or Estrillos (Jaco for groceries as Estrillos doesn’t have anything major). We recently ate at two excellent restaurants in the Estrillos plaza (right off the highway). One was called La Fondua (french style menu) and the other was called Selva (middle eastern cuisine). We are dying to go back to both of them. The beaches down that way are also less crowded than Jaco. Jaco does have excellent restaurants though! For activities, there is a lot available around Jaco/Playa Hermosa. Ocean Ranch Park is nearby, which has several activities as well. For boat cruises, you’d have to travel. You could go down to Manuel Antonio and take a Catamaran or do Sport Fishing. Fshing is also popular out of Playa Herradura. Hope this gets you started.
