HELLO, SO GLAD I FOUND YOUR WEBSITE! VERY WELL DONE!  WE ARE PLANNING A TRIP TO CR THE 2ND WEEK OF JANUARY FOR A WEEK.  MY HUSBAND AND I ARE IN OUR MID 50\’S AND WILL TRAVLE WITH OUR 2 ADULT CHILDREN, 28 & 23.  WE ARE COMING IN FROM PHOENIX, AZ AND CAN EITHER FLY INTO SAN JOSE OR LIBERIA.  WE WANT A HOME BASE RATHER THAN TRAVELING AROUND AND STAYING IN A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT PLACES.  PROBABLY GOING TO RENT A HOUSE IF WE CAN.  WE\’D LIKE TO BE NEAR A BEACH AND TAKE A COUPLE OF DAY TRIPS DOING ACTIVITIES.  HERE\’S WHERE I\’M CONFUSED – MOST THINGS I\’VE READ RECOMMEND STAYING IN THE MANUEL ANTONIO AREA BASED ON MY PARAMETERS.  WHAT DO YOU THINK?  WHAT DON\’T I KNOW?  IS THERE A BETTER AREA?  I WOULD LOVE YOUR INPUT!  THANK YOU

Hi takash,
The Manuel Antonio area does make a great home base, but of course there are other options. It really depends on the activities you are looking to do and what type of environment you are looking for. Manuel Antonio is best known for the abundant wildlife and jungle. It has some nice beaches too. Jaco is another good one on the Central Pacific Coast that can make a really good jumping off point. But it is a bit more built up. Other popular options (for a home base) are in Guanacaste but those typically don’t have a lot of jungle around and it is a longer drive to activities like zip-lines, National Parks, waterfalls, etc. A couple options are Tamarindo, Playa Conchal/Brasilito, Samara, etc.
If you are renting a house, no matter where you end up, you’ll definitely want a rental car so that you can explore. Be sure to check out our discount to save some money on that. Hope you have a great trip.
