Hi, I guess you could call this a preliminary question… My wife and I will be in San Jose around the end of May or June. I am going for Dental work (in San Jose) and since we\’re not firm (yet) on travel dates the dentist appointments are not set yet. Anyway… We will be in Costa Rica two weeks and will be able to take side trips between dental appointments. Maybe 2, 3 or 4 days at a time. We will possibly have someone to drive us around because I\’m not sure I want to rent a car. So I guess I\’m looking for ideas, suggestions on what to do, how to plan, etc. Many thanks, -pharmonic

Hi Pharmonic,
From San Jose you can get to a lot of places very easily and spend a couple nights there. Lots of people check out mountain destinations like La Fortuna (Arenal Volcano) or Monteverde (cloud forest), or you could go to the coast for the beaches. From San Jose, probably the central Pacific is easiest. You might like Jaco or Manuel Antonio is a very popular spot for a wildlife/jungle and beach mix. For other ideas closer to San Jose for just 1 day trips, you could also check out our Map page.
As for getting around, you could consider shared shuttle buses if you don’t want to rent a car. We offer a discount through Interbus, which you can see and contact us about on our discounts page. They go from hotel to hotel so make it very easy.
