My husband and I will be in Costa Rica November 2nd through November 16th. Two friends will be with us. The gentleman is about 74 and has challenges walking; my husband walks with a cane.  Our friend has a captain’s license and enjoys the ocean a great deal. Would you be able to kindly share what activities and tours might be available for them within an hour or two of Jaco.Thank you so much!

Hi Marsha,
We have a few activities your group might like in our Jaco Post like catching the amazing sunset at Villa Caletas or visiting Carara National Park (which has a new, paved handicap accessible trail with resting benches, etc). There is also an aerial tram not far from Jaco, called Ranforest Adventures, that brings you gently through the rainforest canopy.
Since your friend also enjoys the water, you could consider doing a boat/crocodile tour along the Tarcoles River. We did the one through Jose’s and really liked it. The Los Suenos Marina is another must visit for boaters. We took my parents there who are big into boats and they loved it. Charters for fishing or just sightseeing can be arranged from there as well. If you go out you might even see some humpback whales, which will be at the end of their migration that time of year. A couple of other options are to take some longer day trips. On one you could explore the beaches south of Jaco, in the Estrillos area. There isn’t much there for infrastructure but that is part of the charm. You could also go all the way to Manuel Antonio/Quepos one day and explore Manuel Antonio National Park, which has some new, easy trails that are very flat. Or go to the Marina Pez Vela in Quepos to grab lunch and watch the boats come and go. Another, more off-the-beaten-path type activity that might interest you is a chocolate making demonstration at Iguana Chocolate. We also did this tour while staying in Jaco. It is a bit of a drive into the mountains but was really fun and worth the effort. My older parents really enjoyed it as well.
Hope this gives you some ideas. If you need any help booking any of these tours, we would be glad to help and may be able to get you some better deals too. 🙂
