7 days in March

Hombrero asked 8 years ago

We will visit CR  in March for 7 days with kids(16,12). We will rent a car. We are looking for non-resort style vacation when we can decide where to go and what to do. We want to spend half  tracking , kayaking, or rafting and half on the beach. We will stay at simple  style accommodations. We want to eat what local eat, spend time where locals go. Not looking for ATV trips or whole day organized trips. I want to show my kids real world. Can you help us to find two safe locations  where we can enjoy real CR. Thank you

Hi Jan & Monika,
There are several places that you could visit for these experiences. La Fortuna would be good for hiking and rafting, but it can feel touristy. A more authentic experience for that could be Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui or maybe something near Turrialba Volcano (although it is spewing ash at the moment). You can find a lot of great beach towns too that are still pretty authentic. Brasilito in Guanacaste or Cahuita on the Caribbean, or even someplace on the southern pacific coast.
