My husband and I will be spending about a week volunteering in Monteverde in June 2018. Staying at UGA Ecolodge & Research Station. At the end of the research expedition, we would like to spend an additional 2 to 3 days exploring Costa Rica. Would you recommend La Fortuna/Arenal for those days? We prefer not to drive ourselves. Eventually we will fly out of SJO. Thank you!
That’s great that you’ll be volunteering in Monteverde. Yes, La Fortuna is a popular spot and has the Arenal Volcano, which is a really cool sight. You could also consider heading to a coastal area for those days. The climate would be quite different. Someplace like Jaco or Manuel Antonio would not be too far from the airport and won’t be too crowded in June. They would also be accessible with shared or private shuttles. Just another idea to consider. Have fun!
