Tortuga Island Catamaran Tour with Costa Cat
Tortuga Island is located off the coast between Jaco/Puntarenas and the Nicoya Peninsula. It is a small island with a beautiful white-sand beach and is one of the better places to snorkel in Costa Rica.
Tours to the island can be done out of the nearby Marina Los Suenos in Playa Herradura (about 15 minutes from Jaco) on a large 55-foot catamaran, the Costa Cat.
At the Marina, you’ll be served a light breakfast on the boat before heading to the island. The ride out to the island takes about 45 minutes and is scenic, passing other small islands along the way. The ride is very comfortable. You can sit in the A/C inside or take in the fresh air and views from the deck.
Once you arrive at the island, the crew will put out a large platform so that you can go straight from the boat to the sand.
On the island, you can do one of the included activities, like snorkeling, taking a banana boat ride, or hiking the short trail. If you’d prefer, you can also just relax under the palm trees from the comfort of a beach chair. The friendly crew will keep you informed about when the different activities are taking place so you don’t miss anything. Watersport rentals such as jet skis, paddle boards, kayaks, and paddle boats are also available.
The crew will come around continuously offering drinks as well (rum punch and margaritas are included). For lunch, the island chef will prepare a delicious meal of grilled chicken, sauteed potatoes, rice, and side salads.

2026: $145 per person adults, $120 per person children ages 4-13. Rates plus 13% tax. Children 3 and under are free.
2027 (Starting December 21, 2026): $150 per person adults, $120 per person children ages 4-13. Rates plus 13% tax. Children 3 and under are free.
Offered: Pickup time is 6:50 a.m. in Jaco. If meeting at the Marina (see map location), check in time is at 7:15 a.m. Boat leaves at 7:45 a.m.
Duration: You will return to Los Suenos Marina around 3:45 p.m.
Includes: Round-trip transportation from Jaco, Herradura, and Los Suenos, light breakfast aboard (coffee, juice, water, muffin, and fruit), rum punch and margaritas, soft drinks, water, and sodas, lunch on the island (rosemary grilled chicken, sautéed potatoes, yellow rice, and 2 kinds of salad), 3 activities on the beach (snorkel tour, banana boat tour, and self-guided hike), and use of chairs, umbrellas, and beach toys for kids on the island.
*They don’t have a vegetarian or vegan option, but you can have more of the sides. A grilled fish option is available for $18 extra per person.

When to Book and Costa Cat II Option
If you’re traveling during high season (mid-December through April), we recommend booking at least two weeks in advance as the boat does sell out.
If they’re sold out for your date, the tour company often runs another boat, the Costa Cat II. This option generally goes from 10:15 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. We can book this for you if the big boat is full. The Costa Cat II is a smaller, 39-foot (12-meter) twin-hull catamaran with open sides and one bathroom. It can hold up to 49 passengers and staff.

This is a great day out. The staff at Costa Cat were very attentive and there were plenty of them. Getting picked up and dropped off at our door was a great bonus.
The ride on the Catamaran can be a bit bumpy so keep that in mind if you get motion sickness. The staff walked around the beach to make sure everyone had what they needed and invite everyone to the excursions. There are umbrellas and plenty of shade otherwise at the beach.
Lunch was very good with plenty to eat. There was plenty to drink including water and this would be a great day out for families or couples or even just a solo adventure like some on our tour. The booking and check in process was seamless too. For the price I would definitely recommend this to others.
