Ecotermales Hot Springs – Entrance with Lunch or Dinner
The hot springs in La Fortuna are one of the most unique experiences in the area. The water is naturally heated by Arenal Volcano.
There are several options for hot springs resorts in La Fortuna, but we like Ecotermales. It is smaller than some of the other resorts and less commercial feeling.
What to Expect at Ecotermales
Ecotermales has seven large hot springs pools with temperatures ranging from a warm 32°C (90°F) to a steamy 41°C (106°F). They also have two mountain-fed cold water pools for temperature regulating. The pools are nicely spread out and separated by lush tropical gardens. Servers come around taking orders for drinks while you’re relaxing.
Ecotermales limits the number of people to around 100/day so it is less busy.
Day passes are available with or without a meal. Lunch or dinner is either a buffet or a la carte with an appetizer, entree, and dessert (depends on the number of people at the facility that day).
Vegetarian and vegan meals available. Please leave a customer note if you’d like a vegetarian or vegan meal.

Advance Reservations
If you are traveling during high season (December through April), we highly recommend making your reservation at least two weeks in advance as Ecotermales does sell out.

Admittedly a bit of a splurge given we had access to hot springs at our hotel but this was a nice addition to our trip. We went at night with the second (delayed) sitting for dinner. Lots of options at the buffet and the food was fine (i.e. good for a buffet) and we had plenty of time in the hot springs.

Loved it! We had so much rain on our trip, not good for hiking volcanoes but great for sitting in thermal baths! The food was also delicious and met everyone’s specific needs.

These hot springs were some of the best I’ve ever been to. The customer service there is wonderful. The pools are clean and refreshing. The bathrooms and changing rooms are clean and tidy. The buffet lunch is a must do. Everything was delicious and satisfying. We saw a basilisk lizard while we were there at the pools! Very cool.

Spending the evening at EcoTermales was a hit with our 4 young adult/teenage kids. The pools are beautiful and so relaxing. We loved trying the various levels. It’s a great activity after a day of hiking! Dinner was good. It was nice to not have to make a decision about where to eat. They have nice bathrooms, changing rooms and provide lockers and towels. All of that just makes it easier to enjoy the pools.

Ecotermales is a very nice complex that regroups a number of connected warm water pools, a change area with lockers, and a restaurant building for lunch and dinner. As we selected the afternoon session, we started by having lunch which consisted of an excellent buffet with a large number of choices, all excellent. The open concept of the building made it very nice, good service, overall very pleasant. After we changed and went to the pools, which were not too busy (they control the number of guests). It was OK for relaxing on longing chairs. Silence/ quiet is not strictly enforced on location so it may be a bit disturbing at times depending if there are larger groups. Since the site is wide, there are always ways to get a quieter spot. We spent a few hours, had a few drinks and read which made it a perfect afternoon. Thanks to Jenn from 2W in CR for making some last minutes changes and accommodate our request! Much appreciated!

This was a fab day with the kids and the booking was easy. Two Weeks in Costa Rica also helped us with car hire and whale watching. We really appreciated the help and the tips from the blogs – thank you!

These hot springs were phenomenal! The 5-6 different large sized pools plus 3 additional smaller spa soakers were clean, odor free and filled with sparkling fresh warm water. The temperature was comfortable yet gently varied in degrees from 101 to 92. An absolutely delicious buffet lunch that was one of the best selections I’ve EVER
tasted. A truly perfect experience and well worth the money and time to experience.

My wife and I spent a wonderful evening at the Ecotermales Hot Springs. It’s a beautiful setting – all the different pools were fabulous and we enjoyed moving from pool to pool. It wasn’t crowded, which was great The buffet meal provided at the hot springs had a lot of selection and was very delicious. We went there on a rainy evening (they provide umbrellas if you want), and it was the perfect place to be.

My boyfriend said he could have gone to Ecotermales every day of our trip! The buffet wasn’t that good, but springs and shower and “locker room” were top notch.
