So, we are a family of four (2 adults, 2 pre-teens) planning our first trip to Costa Rica. We are thinking of a couple of weeks over next Christmas: 1 week exploring nature and volcanoes and 1 week on a beach. Arenal seems to be the most popular volcano for North American tourists, but I have read of others like Poas and Irazu that seem very interesting as well. Can you review the pros and cons of each of these or recommend another? We are interested in exploring the nature and scenery around the volcano as well as the volcano itself. So would be interested in spending a few days, doing activities such as hiking, bird watching, and maybe horseback riding. Looking forward to it!
