Visiting Alajuela

Gusbuilder asked 7 years ago

We will be returning to Alajuela for 1/2 day and 1 night before our flight after a week in Uvita. Are there sights and markets to visit in Alajuela or should we shuttle back and forth to San Jose?

Hi Gusbuilder,
Alajuela is a cool local city and has a nice central park with a cathedral and an indoor market area that sells local products like fruits and vegetables, leather goods, etc. There are also some decent restaurants. But other than that there isn’t a ton to do (no museums for example). Not too far from there is the Botanical Orchid Garden and Zoo Ave (not actually a zoo but a wildlife rescue and rehab center). But you’d probably need a car to get to those. If you do decide to shuttle to San Jose, you can check out our post, How to Spend 1 or 2 days in San Jose, for some ideas. Have fun, whatever you decide.
