Hello,

We have US passport. Do we need at least 6 months before passport expired? Is this required for Costa Rica?

Hi Kobi,
It’s unclear if you need a passport valid for 6 months or not but that is what most travelers are advised to have when they enter the country. This is also what we advise our clients/readers to have. The Embassy of Costa Rica in Washington D.C. has the regulations posted (see here) but you will see that one paragraph says you only need a passport valid for 1 day and another references the 6 months. In our opinion, it’s better to get a new passport if you have time to order it, so that you don’t run into any trouble when entering the country.
