We are considering a trip next February with our two boys, ages 8 and 10. I am debating whether we should wait a few more years before taking this adventure? What would be your suggested activities for kids that age? Also, do you feel Costa Rica is better suited for older kids, say pre-teen and up?
It really depends on what your kids are in to. We have helped families plan with kids the same age as yours and ones who have older teenagers. Usually the younger kids are into things like wildlife rehabilitation centers, beaches, hanging bridges, kayaking, horseback tours, etc. The older kids might do some of those things but they are also really interested in adventure activities like zip-lining, white water rafting, ATV rides, swimming/jumping at waterfalls, etc. Anyway we’d say that there are tons of activities for all ages so bring them now and again in a few years. 🙂
A lot of the tour companies will also handle your family according to age. Some kids go on tour as early as age 4 or 5 or so and the guides just give them a more relaxed experience while a teenager might get more of a thrill-ride.
If you do decide to visit and need help finding the right tours, let us know and we will be glad to help.
