transport-nerves

Ruby asked 6 years ago

Hi, we are a family of 4, with 2 adults and 2 children (aged 8 and 9), due to arrive Costa Rica into SJO on 13th Dec, departing 29th Dec. We are coming primarily for the wildlife, specifically we all REALLY want to see sloths in the wild! Also, we’ve keen on birdwatching and hiking too. We haven’t quite booked hotels yet, as wanted to settle on how we are getting around first and roughly what it’ll cost. Really liked your website, and would really appreciate advice and help with getting around – I think for us it’s either private transport if affordable and feasible, or shared transport if not. We would love to book this through your website.

We’re keen on the following places, in any order and open to dropping some:
Manuel Antonio NP
Monteverde
Arenal
Sarapiqui
We had liked the look of Tortuguero and Corcovado, but both look very difficult to get to, so happy to drop these if that’s the case.

One other thing – our son turns 10 on 25th December(!) so we’re keen to be somewhere really nice for that.
Thank you.

Hi Ruby,
Sounds like a great family trip! I think the order you have going would be good for the time period you are coming. It gets super busy at the beach around the Christmas/New Year week. So starting in Manuel Antonio and ending in Sarapiqui would work out well (especially for hotel availability). If you did want to incorporate Tortuguero, there is a shared shuttle that goes from La Fortuna to Tortuguero (including a boat ride). Then you could hit up Sarapiqui last. Corcovado might be too difficult (and costly) to fit in since it is quite a ways out of the way.
For the cost of shuttles, you have a lot of different options with the order you laid out (many are common routes). It might make the most sense to do a combination of shared and private options. We’d be happy to help you book those. Just reach out through our Shuttle Booking Page when you have your itinerary set and we will give you some prices.
