Hello,
Tomorrow we will leave dominical to go to puerto Viejo. What is the best route? Since it is a long drive we want to do a night half way, what is a nice area to stay the night?

Hi Lisa,
You can either go the coastal route, up through Jaco and then take 27 to San Jose. Or you can take the mountainous route up to San Isidro de El General and over Cerro de la Muerte (Hill of Death) to Cartago/San Jose. The mountainous way is very pretty but it does get cloudy and rainy up there sometimes so is best to do in the morning. A fun stop might be San Gerardo de Dota if you go that route. If you go the coastal route, it is mostly highway. You could check out Atenas as a stopping point or something close to San Jose.
