Hi,
We are planning to visit Costa Rica in January for 2 weeks….we don’t want to rent a car but to travel around by public transportation – buses. My question is – if we use public buses OR private co’s like Grey Line – would there always be a storage for our suitcases in the storage compartment of the bus…my search in the web didn’t provide a concrete answer…we are talking about one suitcase and one carry-on bag…part of the information was that we’ll have to keep the luggage on board of the bus with us – which doesn’t make sense for intercity trip which take at least 2-3 hours.
Thanks!

Hi Hanan,
Shuttles like Grayline and Interbus keep the luggage stored in the back of the van. As long as you have one suitcase and one carry-on, there will be plenty of room. The company will charge for extra bags. On the public bus, there are compartments underneath, which the driver will open for you to access. Sometimes they give you a paper ticket for your bag and other times not. For the public bus, it’s never a bad idea to sit on the same side of the bus as the luggage door (the same side you enter on) so that you can keep an eye on what’s coming and going underneath at the various stops. We’ve never had a problem though. Hope this helps.
