We plan to travel to Costa Rica in late March 2019 for 9 nights. We’ll spend the first and last night near the airport. I was thinking of doing Arenal, Monteverde and Manuel Antonio. Would these be good destinations for a 5 and 7 year old? Are there any other places that wouldn’t be too far to drive that would be recommended instead? We want to see nature/wildlife and are interested in being in a pool or beach some of the time too. If you think Arenal, Monteverde, and Manuel Antonio are good choices then how much time would you recommend to stay in each (we’d have 7 nights).

That sounds like a great family trip! Those destinations are great for kids that age. With only 7 nights at the destinations it might be a little too much moving around to do all three though. That loop would involve a lot of time in the car. We’d probably suggest cutting out Monteverde in this case (unless the cloud forest is a top priority). If you did that, you could do either 3-4 nights in both La Fortuna and Manuel Antonio. There are so many activities in both places that you can easily soak up that much time.
