dental tourism

David asked 6 years ago

Hello – I’m researching / planning a trip to Costa Rica to have some dental work done.  I’m from western Canada and our dental costs are extremely high to say the least.  I have been consulting with a number of dental clinics in San Jose.  I have narrowed down my search to a couple of leading clinics but I was hoping I could get a general opinion of the quality of dental work done in Costa Rica from someone from Canada or the USA.  Have you got any experience or opinions on the general quality of work done there versus that done in the USA. I am also looking for hotel recommendations in San Jose.  I will be there for 10 – 14 days and I will be traveling alone.  I prefer something centrally located and reasonable priced.  I don’t need 4 or 5 star, I much prefer something more unique with local flavour.  Thanks for any recommendations and opinions you might offer.
Cheers, David

Hi David,
We’ve only gotten basic fillings and cleanings done (so far) and have been generally happy with the work that was performed. It seems that the dentists have good training here. And yes, the prices are great! There are many different dentists though so you are smart to do some research to find a reputable one. I would think that you’d want to stay as close as possible to the one you choose to avoid lengthy commutes. Traffic in and around San Jose can be really bad at times, just like any big city. If you end up right in the downtown area, a cool hotel with a lot of local character and history is Hotel Don Carlos
