Hello, my boyfriend and I will be in Costa Rica in a month and are looking to do the Cerro Chato hike and get to the La Fortuna Waterfall in the same day (we only have one full day in La Fortuna unfortunately). What would be the best way to accomplish this? Can we do this ourselves or do we need to book a tour guide? We also will not be renting a car, will we be able to get there and back to our hostel via taxi?

Hi devan,
You can easily do both in one day, although you might be pretty tired by the end. The best way to do this is to go on the trail starting at the Green Lagoon Lodge ($12). The entrance is only 300 meters past the La Fortuna Waterfall so you could do that on the way back. Both are only about a 10 minute drive from the downtown so you could easily take a taxi.
