Private Van Shuttle Service from SJO Airport or Alajuela Downtown to La Pavona (Tortuguero Boat Dock)
Enjoy door-to-door shuttle van service from the San Jose Airport (SJO) area to La Pavona, where you can access the boats that travel to Tortuguero. A professional driver will be waiting outside the airport doors holding a sign with your name on it. The ride is approximately 3 hours.
*The public boats depart from La Pavona seven times per day (6:00 a.m., 7:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., and 4:30 p.m.). These times are not exact as the boat will wait for the local bus to arrive from San Jose via Cariari before departing. It is best to arrive early to ensure you don’t miss the boat. The trip to Tortuguero takes about 1.5 hours, sometimes longer depending on water levels.
*Public boat cost is not included and you must pay for it separately: ₡3,000 (around $6) per person, one way. Luggage goes in a separate boat, which follows along, and is paid for separately when you board. Each suitcase is ₡1000 (around $2) per bag.
