Sarapiqui or La Virgen to La Fortuna (Arenal) – Private Shuttle Van Service

We need to notify the shuttle operator because of car seat laws. Car seats are free but must be requested in advance.

According to Costa Rican law, children 12 and under must be restrained in a car seat if they meet certain weight/height criteria:

Infants up to one year (up to 28.5 pounds/13 kg or 29.5 inches/75 cm) - rear facing in an infant seat.

Babies and children ages 1-4 (up to 20-40 pounds/9-18 kg or 43 inches/110 cm) - front facing in a convertible seat.

Children ages 4-6 (up to 33-55 pounds/15-25 kg or 57 inches/145 cm) - booster seat with a back.

Children ages 6-12 (up to 48.5-79 pounds/22-36 kg or 57 inches/145 cm) - backless booster.

Note that car seats are not taken as seriously in Costa Rica so it is difficult to guarantee the quality/type of seat that the company will provide. While most customers do not have a problem, if you feel uncomfortable, we recommend bringing your own.
