Enjoy door-to-door shuttle van service from the San Jose Metro area to La Pavona, where you can access the boats that travel to Tortuguero. A professional driver will pick you up from your hotel or vacation rental. The ride is approximately 3 hours.
*The public boats depart from La Pavona seven times per day (6:00 a.m., 7:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., and 4:30 p.m.). These times are not exact as the boat will wait for the local bus to arrive from San Jose via Cariari before departing. It is best to arrive early to ensure you don’t miss the boat. The trip to Tortuguero takes about 1.5 hours, sometimes longer depending on water levels.
*Public boat cost is not included and you must pay for it separately: ₡3,000 (around $6) per person, one way. Luggage goes in a separate boat, which follows along, and is paid for separately when you board. Each suitcase is ₡1000 (around $2) per bag.

On time and excellent driver like all our transfers arranged : however the road from San Jose had suffered a landslide and was closed: our driver Mario was excellent he took us on a scenic detour: via Poas Volcano, we stopped over looking Catarract del Angel : hummingbirds and emerald toucans.
The detour took 2 hours longer: but nothing to the multiple hour traffic jam we would otherwise have suffered. we arrived at la Pavona Dock and met a later ferry: thanks so much
