I’m planning a 10 day trip to visit both the Arenal and Drake Bay. What is the best transportation to get from Arenal to Drake Bay and then back to SJO? I read that the flights are now not available or recommended from Drake to SJO?

Hi Lydia,
You can take a private shuttle van from La Fortuna to Sierpe and then take the daily boat shuttle the rest of the way to Drake Bay. Read our Drake Bay post for more about the boat shuttle option. The shuttle ride from La Fortuna to Sierpe is very long though and would be expensive (6-7 hours and probably $400-500, we can get an exact quote if you need). So lot of people stop somewhere like Manuel Antonio for a night or two to break up that long travel day. A private shuttle from Sierpe to San Jose is not quite as bad and will take about 4-5 hours, and cost around $350 for a van holding 1-5 passengers.
