Hello:
I love your site and we really enjoyed the Hotel Parador in June at Manuel Antonio from your recommendation!!! We are wanting to come back to Manuel Antonio and possibly Drake Bay in Jan. Which airline do you recommend when traveling from San Jose to Drake Bay or Quepos? Im wondering about safety as well. Also if I drive from Manuel Antonio to Drake is there any sites that I would want to stop at along the way? And is there a car rental location to drop off car at before going on the water taxi from Sierpe? I have looked at your recommended hotels for Drake Bay and we are thinking about Pirates Cove but you stated that it was a long way to town. What about Drake Bay Getaway Resort?

Great to hear that our articles helped you plan and that you’re coming back again! The two major domestic airlines in Costa Rica are Nature Air and Sansa. Both have a good safety record in the last 10-15 years. You can check out the specific incidents on the Aviation Safety Network site. We usually recommend whichever one is more convenient (flight times, pricing, etc) but lean toward Nature Air when we have a choice.
If you are driving from Manuel Antonio to Sierpe with all your bags in the car, you probably won’t want to make any major stops. But the drive is beautiful and you could swing through Playa Dominical or the town of Uvita. For the car, the company we recommend on our Rental Car Discount Page, Adobe, offers pick up in Sierpe. You just have to choose the Uvita location and write a comment on the reservation. I believe they charge an extra $20.
The Drake Bay Getaway is in a nice location, a little up the hill from town and a short walk to the beach. People really like it.
