Treetopia Hanging Bridges Tour (Sky Walk)
Overview
Treetopia Park has some of the best hanging bridges in Costa Rica. The bridges are very sturdy and take you through Monteverde’s pristine cloud forest.
The 1.7 mile (2.7 km) well-maintained trail crosses 6 suspension bridges. The hanging bridges are at various heights and viewpoints, spanning up to 774 ft (236 meters) long and 164 ft (50 meters) high.
There’s also a glass bridge, the only one in Costa Rica. The area where you walk is entirely made of glass (a double layer). This allows for gorgeous views of the surrounding cloud forest, including below the bridge itself. The glass bridge (bridge 6) is the shortest bridge at 157 ft (48 meters) long and 49 ft (15 meters) above the ground. It’s optional and can be skipped if you’d prefer.
To see the most wildlife, we recommend adding a naturalist guide ($10 pp). A guide is nice to have for hikes in Monteverde because it can be difficult to see birds and animals on your own.
Note that for the guided tour option, you will visit only four of the hanging bridges. These are bridges 3, 4, 5, and 6, which includes the glass bridge (see map photo). The guide will stop along the way to teach you about the cloud forest environment and point out wildlife. What you can see varies, but on our visits, we have seen howler monkeys and many types of birds, including hummingbirds and the iconic Resplendent Quetzal.
Trail Conditions and Accessibility
The trail is a mix of well-maintained dirt and concrete. There are some inclines, but overall, the hike is easy in difficulty. There are no steps.
Part of the trail is accessible for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility.
