This tour at Treetopia Park combines hanging bridges with a scenic tram ride.
Hanging Bridges (Sky Walk)
Treetopia Park has some of the best hanging bridges in Costa Rica. The bridges are very sturdy and take you through Monteverde’s pristine cloud forest.
The 1.7 mile (2.7 km) well-maintained trail crosses 6 suspension bridges. The hanging bridges are at various heights and viewpoints, spanning up to 774 ft (236 meters) long and 165 ft (50 meters) high.
To see the most wildlife, we recommend adding a naturalist guide ($10 pp). A guide is nice to have for hikes in Monteverde because it can be difficult to see birds and animals on your own.
Note that for the guided tour option, you will visit only four of the hanging bridges. The guide will stop along the way to teach you about the cloud forest environment and point out wildlife. What you can see varies, but on our visits, we have seen howler monkeys and many types of birds, including hummingbirds and the iconic Resplendent Quetzal.
Tram (Tree Tram)
For the tram tour, you’ll ride in an open gondola up to the highest point on the property. As the tram slowly glides up the mountain, you’ll get to enjoy lovely views of the lush cloud forest. If it’s a clear day, you will be able to get a glimpse of Arenal Volcano in the distance.
A naturalist guide will join you, teaching you about the local flora and fauna.
Once at the top, you can take in the views or explore the short trail through the cloud forest.
The tram ride is about 1 mile (1.6 km) or 20 minutes each way.
Restrooms and a small cafe that serves basic food and drinks is available at the top as well.
Accessibility
The tram tour is fully accessible and can accommodate wheelchairs.
For the hanging bridges, there are no steps along the trail. Part of the loop is accessible for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility. Wheelchairs can access through the sixth hanging bridges (the longest one) and back to Reception.
