Tortuga Island Tour with Snorkeling
Enjoy a full-day tour to a beautiful palm-tree-lined beach with gorgeous white sand, lunch, drinks, and the chance to snorkel.
This tour starts from Montezuma Beach on Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula, where you will board a medium-sized speedboat by wading into the shallow water. The staff will help you aboard, provide life jackets, and make you comfortable. The boat has a Bimini (canopy) to provide protection from the sun.
Once you set off, you’ll enjoy scenic views of the Pacific Ocean and Nicoya Peninsula coastline on the 45-minute boat ride to Tortuga Island. Along the way, you may be able to spot dolphins, jumping manta rays, flying fish, sea turtles, and sometimes even humpback whales (seasonal).
Close to Tortuga Island, the boat will anchor at a snorkel spot, just offshore. The volcanic reef is home to lots of small schooling fish, angelfish, porcupine fish, moray eels, needlefish, spotted eagle rays, and more. Snorkel conditions vary but usually you can see a good amount of fish.
After snorkeling, you’ll land at the white-sand island where drinks and fresh fruits will be waiting for you. The tour company has a rancho with some picnic tables where you can hang out, or you can rent a beach chair and umbrella or explore the island while lunch is prepared. There is a small gift shop, some vendors selling shaved ice or coconuts, and of course the beautiful sand, calm water, and palm trees.
For lunch, the cook serves up your choice of fresh BBQ fish or chicken, sauteed vegetables, and grilled potatoes. After lunch, you can swim, rent a kayak or SUP board, take a banana boat ride, or just relax on the beach.
As the day comes to an end, you’ll get back on the boat to return to Montezuma. Arrival in Montezuma is around 4 pm.

This was a magical day! I hesitated booking this tour because I read so
many poor reviews about other tour companies, poor snorkeling, crowded, party boat, etc. That was definitely not the case with this tour! The crew were professional, efficient, helpful, and extremely kind! They went out of their way to help, especially with the snorkeling, helping to get in and out of the boat. The snorkeling was perfect! We had 2 stops, both times we were the only boat in that spot, even though we saw many crowded areas. The water was clear and we saw beautiful fish. There was plenty of food and drinks. The grilled chicken was so tasty and tender. We had the scallop and oyster ceviche ($10) from a local fisherman, some of the best I’ve ever tasted. I recommend this tour without hesitation.
