Selvatura Zipline, Guided Hanging Bridges, and Sloth Sanctuary Combo Tour

Overview

This tour combines both nature and adventure with 3 activities for a complete cloud forest experience. It includes:

  • A guided hanging bridges walk with a bilingual naturalist (2-2.5 hours)
  • Zipline tour on 13 cables (1.5-2 hours)
  • Short guided tour of the Sloth Sanctuary (30-40 min.)

Zipline Tour

Selvatura is a fantastic place for ziplining because the lines are elaborate and the guides are really fun and safe.

This zipline tour has 13 cables, 1 Tarzan swing (optional), and a Superman line ($12), where you go head first, almost flying through the sky. The tour takes you through the jungle and over rivers, providing incredible views of the cloud forest and Lake Arenal.

Five of the cables are between 72 and 100 meters (236 and 328 feet) long, 6 cables are between 100 and 350 meters (328 and 1148 feet), cable number 5 measures 650 meters (2,133 feet), and the last cable is one kilometer (3,280 feet). The length variations make this tour unique because your speed changes by cable and some of the shorter lines bring you between trees, allowing you to see the forest close up.

The zipline tour takes about 1.5-2 hours.

Guided Hanging Bridges

The combo tour also includes one of our favorite hanging bridges hikes in Costa Rica.

Selvatura has 8 hanging bridges ranging from 170-560 feet (51-170 meters). The main focus of the tour is enjoying the amazing panoramic views of the cloud forest canopy from above. With a little luck, you should be able to see some wildlife too. Many kinds of birds can be spotted and wildlife like bats, tarantulas, butterflies, and various kinds of lizards.

Between the bridges, you’ll pass through lush cloud forest along a fairly flat, well-maintained trail. The naturalist guide sets a comfortable pace for everyone in the group and makes stops to teach you about the cloud forest and its flora and fauna.

The hike is about 2 miles (3 km) and takes 2-2.5 hours. This is a small group tour with up to 8 people per guide.

Sloth Sanctuary Guided Tour

You’ll then take a short tour (30-40 minutes) of the Sloth Sanctuary on the same property. This is a huge enclosure that has around 20 two-toed sloths. They have been rescued and are unable to be released back into the wild. The nicely maintained facility provides these animals a home that mimics their natural environment.

The sloths are often close to visitors as they go about their daily activities, climbing around and feeding, so this is a wonderful opportunity to see these generally elusive animals close up. You’ll have a bilingual guide to teach you about these amazing creatures.
