Selvatura Private Guided Hanging Bridges & Group Sloth Sanctuary Tour
This tour combines a hanging bridges walk with a visit to Sloth Sanctuary at Selvatura. For the hanging bridges, you will have your own private bilingual guide. Since it’s a private guide, they will be able to focus on your interests. The Sloth Sanctuary will be in a small group with a guide from Selvatura.
First, you’ll explore the hanging bridges. Selvatura has 8 hanging bridges ranging from 180-515 feet (55-157 meters). The main focus of the tour is enjoying the amazing panoramic views of the cloud forest canopy from above. With a little luck, you should be able to see some wildlife too. Many kinds of birds can be spotted and wildlife like bats, tarantulas, butterflies, and various kinds of lizards.
Between the bridges, you’ll pass through lush cloud forest along a fairly flat, well-maintained trail. The naturalist guide sets a comfortable pace and makes stops to teach you about the cloud forest and its flora and fauna.
The hike is about 2 miles (3 km) and takes about 2-2.5 hours.
After, you’ll take a short tour (30-40 minutes) of the Sloth Sanctuary on the same property. This is a huge enclosure with around a dozen two-toed sloths. They have been rescued and are unable to be released back into the wild. The nicely maintained facility provides these animals a home that mimics their natural environment. The sloths are often close to visitors as they go about their daily activities, climbing around and feeding, so this is a wonderful opportunity to see these generally elusive animals close up. You’ll have a bilingual guide to teach you about these amazing creatures.

Two Weeks in Costa Rica set us up with Esteban Mendez as our private tour guide of the hanging bridges and jungle walk. He is extremely knowledgeable, personable and speaks great English! He can identify birds by their calls and sounds, he is able to call certain species and ensures you are able to get a good look at them through his spotting scope. We never felt rushed and there were no stupid questions, he was always happy to address and answer them. What an awesome overall experience we had.
The sloth sanctuary was a nice surprise, it is very spacious, well maintained and controlled to ensure the safety and wellness of the sloths while still allowing us access to them. The guide provided by the sanctuary was excellent.

Selvatura is an amazing park in its own right and well worth adding to one’s itinerary. The hanging bridges are amazing with great views from above of the cloud forest. One of the things I appreciated about the park is that it is a lot less crowded than the other Monteverde parks. There are a lot of interesting plants and small animals.
Esteban is one the best guides I have experienced. He provided a lot of information about park and its history as well a great deal of help in viewing small animals. He knows a lot about the area and talks about it without overwhelming or distracting us from the magnificence of the surroundings.
Two Weeks in Costa Rica provides an exceptional service. Their website is a treasure trove of useful information about Costa Rica. They were very helpful and played a significant role in making our Costa Rica experience better than we hoped it would be.
