Mistico Hanging Bridges Guided Tour
After pickup from your accommodations, you’ll arrive at Mistico Hanging Bridges. These are some of the best hanging bridges in Costa Rica and offer a unique way to experience the rainforest canopy.
The guided tour will take you on a 2 mile (3.2 km) concrete path with 16 hanging bridges. It’s fairly easy, more of a walk than a hike, but is a nice trek through the jungle. The bridges are very safe/sturdy and not very shaky.
Along the way, a knowledgeable naturalist guide will point out birds and animals that you might not spot on your own. Animals that may be seen include coatis (racoon-like animals), howler monkeys, white-faced capuchin monkeys, peccaries (wild-boar-type animals), snakes, armadillos, and lots of birds.
The guides we use for this tour are from a small, local company in La Fortuna. We have done many tours with them ourselves and their guides are excellent and very knowledgeable.
La Fortuna Waterfall
After the hanging bridges, you’ll be driven across town to visit La Fortuna Waterfall. This is a gorgeous waterfall that drops 230 feet into a large natural pool.
Your guide will lead you down the forested path and stairs. There are about 530 concrete stairs but it is very well-maintained and there’s a sturdy handrail to help. It takes most people about 10 minutes to get down to the waterfall and you can go at a much slower pace on the way back up.
At the bottom, you’ll get to enjoy the powerful waterfall in front of you with complete jungle surrounds. You can also swim in the natural pool or adjacent stream as long as the water isn’t too powerful.
Back at the top, you’ll enjoy a rest then have a delicious, traditional lunch at a local restaurant.
Baldi Hot Springs Resort
After lunch, you’ll be brought to Baldi Hot Springs Resort for some time to unwind.
The hot springs in La Fortuna are one of the most unique experiences in the area. The water is naturally heated by Arenal Volcano.
Baldi’s large property has 25 thermal pools of all different sizes and temperatures, some with small waterfalls and lights. There are a few swim up bars as well (drinks can be purchased separately).
For families, there is a kids’ area with a water play structure and smaller slides that are good for younger kids. There are also some big (and fast!) waterslides for older kids and adventurous adults.
This tour includes a dinner buffet at the hot springs.
