Group Birding Tour in Monteverde
Monteverde is a great place to see a diverse variety of birds. The guides that we recommend for this tour are locals who specialize in birding.
They start the tour with about an hour of early morning birding in key locations along the road, then take you to the Curi Cancha Reserve once it opens. Here, you can spot an abundance of tropical and migratory birds living in their natural habitat.
On the 4-5 hour tour, you’ll visit four different ecosystems. The guide will focus on spotting endemic species from the region such as the Coppery headed emerald, Black faced Solitaire, Black Guan, Prong billed Barbet, and Collared Redstart, among others. Depending on the time of the year, you might see a Resplendent Quetzal or even a Bellbird.
The tour starts in the early morning, when the birds are most active and cloud cover is minimal.
Cost of Group Tour (6 people max): $69 per person + 13% tax + entrance fee. You will pay your own entrance fee on the day of the tour ($25 adults, $15 children and students ages 5-20).
Offered: 6:00 a.m.

Highly recommended if interested in birds. It was just us and another couple and we were fortunate to have Derniet as a guide — he was very good at recognizing and spotting the birds.
You start with 1.5 hours in town spotting the local birds. We took a short coffee break (best coffee we had during our trip) and then transitioned t Curi-Cancha. Derniet counted 45 different bird species for the day including the previously elusive bellbird. He emailed his list from eBirds to us as well.
