Answer for Where is the most moderate place to live in Costa Rica?

Hi Carly,

That’s exciting that you’re thinking about moving to Costa Rica! The Uvita/Dominical area does get pretty hot but there are some communities in the mountains where it’s slightly cooler and there’s a nice breeze. You should look into Playa Hermosa de Uvita, Ballena, Escalares, the mountains near Hatillo, and the communities on the way to San Isidro del General (Platanillo, Lagunas de Baru, etc.). All these areas are a bit cooler but still fairly close to the beach–within 15-30 min. depending on exact location. Not all these places will be on maps online so it might be easier to arrange something when you get here. Another thing- if you’d rather be closer to the beach, plenty of people with dogs live in Uvita and Dominical and they all seem to be fine. Lots of rivers and waterfalls to cool off in 🙂 Just keep in mind that AC is very expensive to run.

You might want to check out a post we just came out with. It addresses the most commonly asked questions about moving to Costa Rica. Some are about housing but there’s lots of other info too. https://www.twoweeksincostarica.com/faqs-moving-to-costa-rica/

Good luck with the move!
