We will be in Puntarenas the weekend of March 10 for our son’s wedding. From there we would like to travel to another part of the country. Our only restriction – I am disabled. I walk with crutches (short trips) and use a wheelchair as needed. What area do you recommend that would accommodate my limited mobility? Not a beach person. Do like to take tours. See new areas.
Thanks for your help,
Meryl

Hi Meryl,
Costa Rica does have some attractions for people with limited mobility but they are somewhat scattered. Around Jaco, there are a couple of good activities. This is a beach area but you could always stay somewhere in the hills like Hotel Pumilio. Carara National Park is close to Jaco and has a nice paved trail that is handicap accessible. Here is a link to our blog post about Carara. You can see a lot of birds there but other wildlife too. There’s also a crocodile river boat tour in nearby Tarcoles. Near the Central Valley/San Jose, there’s the Britt coffee tour, Zarcero’s Topiary Gardens, the Botanical Orchid Garden, and Sarchi for seeing Costa Rica’s famous oxcarts. You could stay in the charming city of Atenas in the mountains to access these attractions. Hope that gives you some ideas!
