Samara

davetalty asked 7 years ago

Hi Jenn and Matt,
I am planning a vacation between Christmas and New Years for my wife and two adult children. I have been looking at several areas in Guanacaste and am thinking of renting in Samara. We are considering a move to CR in a few years when we retire and we are looking to get a good feel for local living. Is Samara a good spot for this? are there expats there. It seems like a less touristy area but with a good beach community. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Dave,
Yes, Samara has a good sized expat community and is a good choice to check out local living. It will be a little crazy there the week between Christmas and New Years (like all beach towns in Costa Rica) because a lot of the locals from San Jose or other inland cities take vacation at that time and head to the beaches. So it might be a little hard to get a real sense of how things will be. If you are serious about that area you could try to seek out some locals who live there (try searching for Facebook Groups) and meet up with them. Hope you have a great time!
