Hello, I am an international student from Belgium who just finished her English cours in Santa Barbara after five months and moved to Costa Rica for a Spanish cours. I am staying in Tamarindo for my studies and I am about to travel around for two weeks now. But I am a little bit desperate. I want to travel around for two weeks in Costa Rica but I really don’t know how to start. I only traveled to Arenal, Samarah, Nicaragua in the weekends. I am sure Costa Rica has more, but what is for me able to see as an 18 years old student without car and a low budget? First I was maybe thinking about working somewhere as a volunteer and for exchange a sleeping place & food. Looked like a very good experience, working abroad. But most of them don’t like the fact that it only will be for two weeks. And maybe I have to see and enjoy more from Costa Rica before I am leaving and have to start university. I hope you guys can help me out !

Kind regards, Binette Seck

Hi Binette,
Yes volunteering here usually isn’t free as they make you pay for food and your room at least, sometimes more. Could you afford to stay in hostels while you travel around? You could take the bus from Tamarindo to Puntarenas (you have to get dropped off in Baranca if I remember right and take a local bus to Puntarenas) but from there you could connect to buses going south to Jaco, Manuel Antonio, Dominical, Uvita, etc. Or you could get the bus there that goes to Monteverde as well. All these destinations have cheap hostels and you can probably find other people doing the same thing. Hopefully this helps you out, you could also look at our Destinations Summary Guide for ideas on where to visit.
