planning a route of SJO to Arenal, on to a stop at Las Pumas before heading to Samara. Then Samara to Tamarindo and back to SJO. I read up on the routes and it seems a regular vehicle should be fine. Am I missing anything? Thanks a lot, your page is extremely helpful!

Hi Tim,
Those routes are all well paved and you should be fine with a 4×2 as long as you don’t go exploring too much. Our Road Conditions post covers all those and has more details if you want to check it out. Just make sure you don’t take the coastal route from Samara to Tamarindo (better to go back through Nicoya). Have a nice trip.
