Our last night in Costa Rica (April, 2018) will be spent in the La Fortuna area. I can either book a 1:00pm flight the next day from SJO or LIR. It appears the driving times are about the same. The LIR flight is slightly cheaper (even though we would have to pay an extra $40 to drop the car rental). In terms of roads and traffic, is there a reason to fly home from one vs the other. Which route will have fewer potential delays? Many thanks!

Hi Jodie,
You’re right that the drive times are similar and traffic will likely be similar too so go with Liberia if that is less expensive. You could hit traffic either way (especially if your flight is on a weekday) so it shouldn’t make much difference. Just be sure to allow extra time in case of delays. We try to be at the airport 2 hours early. Neither airport has rental car offices right there so allow time to drop off the car and get shuttled to the airport as well.
