The owner (Miguel) and his staff was the best part, he was so helpful and genuinely wanted your experience to be the best. From example, he picked us up and dropped us at the beach, he recommended a day out horse riding with Pepe which was so good, home cooked lunch and waterfall swimming was so memorable.
The hotel is clearly a passion, and is not for those looking for luxury (no AC), but that's the point, more in touch with nature

The cabins are located on beautiful grounds, and the room was simple but clean and comfortable, with a good fan. We loved having the little terrace with a hammock.
The pool area was very nice, and welcome in the heat.
The staff were helpful in arranging transfers for us and also booked us on a night tour.
We opted to have lunch on one of the days, which was delicious.

The setting of the property is absolutely gorgeous in the beautiful jungle, with many opportunities to see wildlife right there. Erickson and his family go above and beyond with making the stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. I was taken on an afternoon walk on my first afternoon to get to know the birds and wildlife. I went without a car and Erickson constantly helped me with taxi transfers, which they run from a separate family business. Maria, the mother, cooked delicious meals from scratch every evening (for the full duration of my 5 night stay) and it was the best meals I had in CR. All my tours were also arranged for me, which were all fantastic. Cannot recommend this place enough!

We loved everything. From the moment we were picked up by Steven, and driven to this beautiful hideaway, we didn't stop smiling.
We came to Greenleaf at the end of a 2 1/2 week adventure around the North and west of Costa Rica, and we'd already been in Drake Bay for a few days first, but wanted to finish our trip with a bit of luxury and relaxation with amazing views, and this exactly is what Greenleaf provided.
Helen, and Steven, welcomed us with open arms into their wonderful setting. We were treated to delicious juices, fresh fruits, amazing food (which catered brilliantly for my vegan ways), bird watching, coaty spotting and introductions to the whole monkey family who live in the jungle behind the bungalows. Helen was so helpful before we even arrived, booking our snorkeling trip for us, as well as arranging our flight back to San Jose from Drake Bay. Steven was so kind, offering to drive us any where we needed, getting us to and from the snorkeling pick up, as well as dropping us off at the airport. They both make such a dream team, you can really understand why people come back year after year.
At the end of a wonderful trip we couldn't have chosen a better place to soak up all our adventures and add this magical experience as a wonderful cherry on top.
If you are thinking of going to Drake bay, make sure you stay here, or at least get in touch with them for all their amazing local knowledge and passion.
Thank you for making us feel part of the family.

Very nice peaceful place, at the grounds of a friendly costarican family, right on the edge of the rainforest. Beautiful Ganadito beach is at walking distance. The cabin where we slept was new and fine.

The flora and fauna of adjacent parks is amazing but you...
The flora and fauna of adjacent parks is amazing but you must visit them with a guide for the appropriate access and to really appreciate what is there. Drake is a the ideal place from which to reach the parks. We travelled to Drake Bay by intercity bus from San Jose and connected with the ferry. The "wet landing" was a first for us - a genuine adventure where the ferry assistants wade your luggage to shore on their shoulders and the passengers just focus on getting themselves to shore. The ferry takes an hour or so through amazing mangroves. Make sure to tell your hotel to book you on the ferry to avoid misunderstanding -- there are only two ferries per day and you don't want to lose a day/night in Sierpe.
The park is amazing --book a tour well in advance as daily entries are limited. Access to the park is by boat. Birds galore, several species of monkey including the mighty howler, tapirs, two species of ant eater, and many more creatures. We did the snorkeling tour too which was also amazing. We saw deep sea turtles, sharks, manta rays and a plethora of species of fish. Beautiful, pristine and rules about not interrupting wildlife. For example, we were watching a turtle and she started to rise for air and we all had to move back 4-6 metres and we had the joy of then watching her float on the surface for a while and just rock in the waves. Being herself and breathing without feeling anxious

The town, while not a secret by any means, has still avoided the trappings of rampant tourisim. There is a local vibe that is genuine and refreshing.. I like that the town is still a bit rough on the edges.
The abundance of world class outdoor experiences is the icing on the cake.

It is a very peaceful place, we definitely recommend it. Beautiful walking trail to san josecito, magnificent view, good restaurants (kalaluna & coco cafe), a lot of activities. You have access to the Corcovado NP, waters are calmer than most beaches in costa rica (good for swimming). Snorkeling tour to cano was great!

It is a very remote, relaxed place.
It is a very remote, relaxed place. Great to experience the simple life. There is a beautiful hiking trail along the coast line to more secluded beaches. Many activities to be done from the beach, including day trips to Corcovado national park, night tours, snorkelling trips.
The beach itself is not amazingly beautiful- it’s not pristine white sand and clear waters- it has a very rustic feeling and there are no beach bars. But there are places to eat just up from the beach or grab a drink from the supermarket. We saw a lot of wildlife! Scarlet macaws are flying around. There’s a nice restaurant called Lookout restaurant with good food and a great view over the bay.

In Drake there is Corcovado Park, snorkeling, scuba diving...
In Drake there is Corcovado Park, snorkeling, scuba diving and a public trail at the end of the beach to hike. 3 - 4 days is sufficient. Would take boat in from Sierpe, not drive in. The road is 25 km of NOT maintained gravel road, so potholes. NEED. 4 x 4 to get into town.
The hotel was located walking distance from the beach. Our host, Yami, had us picked up from the boat when we arrived and brought us to our room. We had a room with a private bathroom and it was very clean and comfortable:-) There were nice touches in the room including fresh flowers, water, & juice. We ate a delicious breakfast which was served on an open patio with a lovely view of the beach! Yami accommodated us with luggage storage and transported us back to the beach to catch our boat when we departed. It was perfect for us.
The location is superb - surrounded by forest, away from the bustle of Drakes Bay, backing on to its own safe beach. The staff are charming and very helpful, and did everything possible to help us eg by booking tours, making sure we got on the right boat each day, and arranging meals to suit our tour schedule. The food in the restaurant is good and reasonably priced. Our room ( a bungalow), like all the others, had a lovely view through the trees to the sea. In the hotel grounds we say sloth, macaws and a semi resident toucan.
First I was sceptical, but this is a no brainer. The owners are nice, and its bascially a small house on their property, in the middle of Drake Bay. The room is quite big, has a powerful fan, a kitchenette, plently of power outlets, a big fridge and a small terrace. The bathroom has a shower and everything you need. From the terrace you can see a resort restaurant below, and if you're friendly enough they even give you a coffee at 5am. :)
For that price, Casita Tangara is a bargain.
Finca Maresia is a wonderful, friendly place to stay. Incredible value for money. The rooms are modern, spacious and clean and set in the trees in the forest sounding Bahai Drake thus enabling incredibe views of wildlife and birds, especially first thing in the morning. Mark and the staff were attentive, enthusiastic and welcoming, including coming to pick us up in a thunderstorm. This was one of my partner and my favourite stays during our 3 week honeymoon.
I love the location away from the busy areas in Drake Bay but at a popular beach that people hike hours or take a boat to get to, the purpose behind the hotel (turtle project), the food is really good, the value is great. Recardo is a very nice man and everyone working there is friendly and helpful. Cheap tours available of the Rio Claro. You get to experience being immersed in the jungle and at night can hear the jungle and waves crash on the beach.
the staff was very nice and helpful during our stay. They came to pick us up to the beach when we got to Bahia Drake, which was very helpful. The hotel is very nice, with a common area with hammocks and seating area and the room was spacious and clean. We did a stay in Corcovado for a night afterwards and they kept our luggages during that night with no charge and they took us down to the beach to take the boat back to Sierpe afterwards as well.
Helpfull staff, and nice room. With great bathroom, good beds and airconditioning (very nice at Osa Peninsula).
Hotel is located just outside the "village" of Drake Bay, but has supermarket just down the street. The hotel is located next to a (muddy) creek flowing towards the ocean. Spotted a jesus-christ-lizzard running across the surface.
At night there was a huge concert of nocturnal animals, especially frogs.
The pool, great staff, very good restaurant inside the hotel (and they accept credit card with no extra fee). Petra the owner does a quite amazing job in organising the ferry from Sierpe to Drake Bay and picking you up at the beach. Especially because it is not so easy to get there this is very helpful. And a special thanks goes to the waiter in the hotel restaurant, he was so kind. :)
Great location for a few days in Bahia Drake, within walking distance from the beach and restaurants and they pick you up with a car from the beach on the day you arrive. The room was comfortable and the staff helped us organize great activities in the area (overnight tour in the Corcovado National Park + scuba diving) The food in the restaurant was really good!
we had a family room up on a hill with a most amazing view of the bay and sunsets and a lovely outside area. The food in the restaurant was really good and we went on a great trip organised by the hotel. The rooms themselves were not luxurious but the surroundings were truly fantastic; we all had a fabulous time and were sad to leave.
The view from the porch was lovely. The air conditioning worked. Drake Bay has good access to Isla Cano Marine Reserve and the Corcovado National Park, which are both worth a visit if you are into those things. The staff was extremely helpful with luggage, arranging tours, and responsive to requests, but the hotel lacks amenities.
Great location, beautiful view from balcony, very spacious and clean rooms with everything you need. Breakfast was brilliant, especially since we could have at as early as 5:20am, before the start of our tour to Sirena station. The hotel is a 5-10 mins walk from the beach, where the boats depart for excursions.
Drake Bay is on the edge of the jungle. We had an awesome time here. The view from the restaurant is really stunning. When you are taking early morning trip to Corcovado, location is very convenient, with just about 3 minutes to the beach meeting point.
having pool was wonderful, close to town, staff friendly and helpful to get great tour assist. We watched a monkey in the tree with Our binoculars every eve. you really do have to take a tour or hike to get to beach from Drake Bay.
Juan carlos and his family are amazingly nice and helpfull. The place is nice clean beautiful and surrounded by nature.
Juan will help with anything you can think of and drake bay is an amazing place to be at!
Just go and enjoy.
Property was located in the Center of Drake. Surrounding where lush tropical plants with beautiful sounds of birds and crickets. Pool was finished and excellent and staff was very accommodating. I would recommend this place.
The location, the staff, the food, and the facility were all wonderful. We could not recommend this hotel more highly. Additionally, the guides for the various tours were also very good.
I don’t think we could have picked a better place to stay in Drake Bay. Perfectly located between the beach and restaurants. Very helpful staff and a wonderful view from the room.
