Atenas is a beautiful town in the low mountains of central Costa Rica. The climate is moderate and dry. The town is very authentic and on Sundays you can find many families in the Central Park enjoying family time. The best part is that Atenas is not overrun with tourists. Cute small town. Lovely to walk from the hotel to town. There are some hills so good if you like to walk. Good to ask about restaurants or where to get good coffee. There is great coffee from Holland and sweets ay the south corner of the park & a place called Tica cafe looked good but it was closed.Weather was warm but there was a nice breeze. It's an interesting area if you are adventurous in your driving habits. The weather can make for disappointing outdoor afternoons but the views from up in the clouds at Barons are great - if and when they clear !

This is the town that we have chosen to spend our retirement in. It has all that a small town can offer including good restaurants and very friendly people. its proximity to many of Costa Ricas attractions makes it an ideal place to use as a starting point for many adventures. less than an hour to downtown San Jose, the beach, Poas volcano, and many more fun places.

The grounds were amazing, the wildlife wonderful. The hosts were great and all around a good place to be. The breakfasts were not only visually stunning, but delicious. Recommend it to anyone who needs a place to unwind.

Atenas is a quiet small town know for having the best climate in the world. It is an easy drive from the airport, yet away from the hustle-bustle. It does help to speak Spanish, as many of the locals do not speak English.

Everything was local, super fresh, and tasty (especially the omelets). The owner and her staff were amazing. The pool and pool area were beautiful - surrounded by trees etc. with warm water. The view from the outdoor dining area (overlooking the valley below and mountains above) was breathtaking and inspirational.

There were many appliances in the kitchen and coffee was offered as well as some staples. There were great glass dishes, mugs, bowls and everything like that. Wifi was provided. The park had a lot of Christmas/Holiday entertainment. Folklorico Dance was fun to see... Public pool for swimming nearby.

There is no beach, no mountains, no rain forest, but this was meant to be a restful stop enroute, and it was perfect. On top of that, I fell in love with the town of Atenas. We were only there for a day, but I would love to spend more time in that town. If I could retire in CR, I can't imagine a better place to do it. Juan (the host) is excellent.

The entire hotel is designed to take advantage of the views... when you're on the balcony of your room, in the pool, in the restaurant, or even lying in bed - you get some of the most breathtaking views.
